FALL EQUINOX — THE SACRED BALANCE

Sep 20, 2026

September 22nd is the Fall Equinox — the moment when day and night are equal, when light and dark hold perfect balance.

It won't last, of course. By tomorrow, darkness will have gained ground. The descent into winter has begun.

But today, for one breath, everything is in equilibrium. And there's something to learn here.

The Teaching of Balance

We tend to think of balance as a destination — something we achieve and then maintain. But the equinox teaches otherwise.

Balance is a moment, not a state. A threshold, not a resting place.

The Earth doesn't stay balanced. It moves through cycles — more light, less light, more dark, less dark. The balance point is just that: a point. A breath between seasons.

What if we stopped trying to achieve permanent balance and instead learned to move gracefully between the poles?

What Wants Equal Attention?

The equinox is a good time to ask: What in my life needs rebalancing?

What have I been overemphasizing? What have I been neglecting?

Maybe you've been all action and no rest. Or all inner work and no outer expression. All giving and no receiving. All seriousness and no play.

The equinox invites you to notice the imbalance — not with judgment, but with honest seeing. And then to make a small adjustment. A tilt toward what's been forgotten.

An Equinox Practice

On September 22nd, try this:

At sunrise: Face east. Acknowledge the light — everything you've accomplished, created, expressed this year. Give thanks for the visible.

At sunset: Face west. Acknowledge the dark — everything that's been gestating, healing, composting out of sight. Give thanks for the hidden.

In between: Ask yourself what needs rebalancing. What small shift would bring you closer to center?

The Descent Begins

After the equinox, we begin the descent into darkness. The days shorten. The nights lengthen. We move toward the interior.

This isn't something to fear. It's something to welcome. The dark half of the year has its own gifts — depth, rest, reflection, dreams.

Stand at the threshold today. Honor the balance. And then let yourself descend.

The darkness is waiting, and it is kind.
