LETTING GO AS DEVOTIONAL PRACTICE

Sep 24, 2026

The trees are showing us something right now.

They're releasing what they no longer need. Not because the leaves are bad or broken, but because holding on would cost them their lives.

Trees that don't release their leaves in autumn can't survive winter. The weight of snow on unreleased foliage snaps branches, even fells entire trees.

Letting go isn't loss. It's survival. It's wisdom. It's devotion to what wants to live.

What We Think Letting Go Means

We often think of letting go as failure. As giving up. As admitting we couldn't make it work.

Or we think of it as rejection — deciding something isn't good enough, cutting it out with judgment.

Neither of these is what the trees are doing. The leaves aren't failures. The tree isn't rejecting them. It's simply time. The season has changed. What was needed before isn't needed now.

Letting Go as Devotion

What if letting go was an act of devotion — to your own life, to what wants to come next, to the natural cycles of growth and release?

The tree releases its leaves in devotion to its own survival. It trusts that spring will come, that new leaves will grow, that the release is part of the cycle, not the end of it.

What if you released what's ready to go — not from despair, but from devotion? Not because it's bad, but because its season has passed?

What's Ready to Fall?

As you move through this autumn, ask yourself:

What identity is ready to fall? What version of yourself has completed its purpose?

What habit is ready to fall? What practice once served you but no longer does?

What relationship dynamic is ready to fall? What pattern has run its course?

What belief is ready to fall? What story about yourself or the world no longer fits?

You don't have to rip anything out. Just stop holding on so tightly. Let gravity and grace do their work.

Release in devotion to what wants to live.

Your thoughts matter!
