SAMHAIN - HONORING WHAT HAS RELEASED THIS YEAR
Oct 29, 2026
October 31st is Samhain — the ancient Celtic new year, the final harvest, the night when the veil between worlds is thinnest.
While the mainstream world focuses on costumes and candy, Samhain offers something deeper: a chance to consciously honor what has died.
Not just people who have passed (though certainly them), but everything that has ended, released, completed, or died within you this year.
The Deaths Within a Life
We experience many deaths before our physical death.
The death of identities — who we thought we were, roles we no longer play.
The death of relationships — some through endings, some through transformation.
The death of dreams — visions that didn't materialize, paths that closed.
The death of beliefs — stories we once held as true that no longer fit.
These deaths are real. They deserve to be honored, mourned, and released — not just swept aside in the rush toward the next thing.
A Samhain Practice
On October 31st (or the days surrounding it), try this:
Create an altar. Include photos of people who have passed, objects that represent what has ended, candles to light the way between worlds.
Make a list. Write down everything that has died this year — externally and internally. Relationships, identities, beliefs, dreams, habits, patterns.
Speak their names. Read your list aloud. Acknowledge each death. Let yourself feel whatever arises — grief, relief, gratitude, all of it.
Release. Burn the list (safely) or bury it. Let the physical act symbolize the release.
Give thanks. Thank what has died for what it gave you. Even the hardest endings carry gifts.
Death as Doorway
Samhain reminds us that death isn't an ending — it's a doorway. What dies makes room for what wants to be born.
As you stand at this threshold, honoring what has passed, you're also creating space for what's coming.
The new year begins in the dark. The seeds of what's next are already germinating in the soil of what's been released.
Honor the dead. Trust the dark. And wait for what wants to be born.
