THE THINNING VEIL

Oct 01, 2026

October has a different quality, doesn't it?

The air changes. The light slants differently. Something feels closer — something from beyond the visible world.

Many traditions describe October (especially the days leading to Samhain on October 31st) as a time when the veil between worlds grows thin. When the boundary between the living and the dead becomes more permeable.

Whether you take this literally or metaphorically, there's something here worth exploring.

What Is the Veil?

The veil is the boundary between what we can see and what we can't. Between the conscious and the unconscious. Between the living and the ancestors. Between the known and the mysterious.

Most of the time, this boundary feels solid. We go about our daily lives largely unaware of the vast unseen world that exists alongside the visible one.

But in certain seasons — and October is one of them — the boundary softens. Intuition sharpens. Dreams become more vivid. Messages come through more clearly.

Working with Ancestral Energy

The thinning veil is an invitation to connect with those who came before us.

This doesn't require elaborate ritual. You might simply light a candle and speak to your grandmother. Look at old photographs and feel the presence behind the images. Cook a recipe that's been passed down and taste the love that's woven into it.

You might ask your ancestors for guidance. Not in a dramatic way — just a quiet request. "Show me what I need to see. Help me understand what I'm missing."

Then pay attention. To dreams. To coincidences. To the sudden memories that arise unbidden.

The Gift of Thinness

The thinning veil isn't something to fear. It's a gift — a reminder that we're not alone, that we're part of a long lineage, that wisdom and love continue beyond death.

Use this season to remember. To honor. To listen.

The dead aren't gone. They're just on the other side of a veil that, right now, is very thin indeed.

What do they want to tell you?
