Alchemist and the Caged Bird
"Your heart is becoming whole. You are invited to start finding your voice."
You've done the inner work. Your ego and soul are in real partnership. Now life is asking you to go into the world as that person, and you keep showing up as the version from before.
Do This Now · 2 Minutes
- Notice the next moment you feel yourself adjusting, softening, or reaching for the old version of you. Name it: "I'm about to revert."
- Ask: "What would the person I've actually become say right now?"
- Say the real thing. Stay in the room as who you are now. Notice expansion or constriction.
You're done when: one moment of not reverting. One real response delivered.
Heart shows the inner work is real, your ego and soul are in genuine collaboration. Resonance reveals whether you're going into the world as who you've actually become, or reverting to the version that existed before the healing.
How This Shows Up
You may recognize yourself here:
- You are uncovering exactly who you are inside, and you present a managed version in public
- You give bold, clear guidance to others and then soften everything you say about yourself
- You've done deep work and the people closest to you haven't felt the shift yet
- Conversations, projects, and posts stay in "almost ready" because ready would mean fully visible
- You catch yourself reverting to old patterns of people-pleasing that you thought you'd healed
If this continues: The gap between who you are and who you show the world grows wider. People build relationships with a version of you that's already gone. Coherence that never reaches expression doesn't stay alive forever. It dulls. The bird doesn't forget how to sing. But the longer you refuse to let it, the more the cage starts to feel like home.
The Shift
Before the heart work, you learned how to be palatable. You became fluent in reading what was wanted and delivering it with precision. Then you did the work, brought your ego and soul into partnership, and something real took their place. But the old version didn't get retired. She's still the one who walks into rooms, who writes the emails, who shows up in relationships. Not because you don't know she's outdated, but because going into the world as your authentic self doesn't feel safe yet. Healing happened in private. Resonance happens in public.
The growth isn't more inner work. It's letting what you've healed actually meet the world. One conversation where you don't reach for the old patterns. One room where you stay as who you are now instead of adjusting to what you think people can handle. You don't need to announce the change. You just need to stop pretending it didn't happen. The bird doesn't need a bigger voice. It needs you to stop closing the cage door every time it's time to fly.
2-Minute Micro-Action
Do this the next time you walk into a room, a conversation, or a moment that asks you to be visible. Thirty seconds is enough.
-
Step 1: Catch the Reversion
The next time you feel yourself adjusting, softening, or reaching for the old version, pause. Notice the moment. Name it: "I'm about to show up as who I was before the work."
-
Step 2: Ask the Real Question
Ask: "What would the person I've actually become say right now? What would she do?" Let the answer come without editing it for palatability.
-
Step 3: Stay as Who You Are
Say the real thing. Stay in the room as who you are now. Let one person experience the version that emerged from the healing. Notice what happens. Expansion or constriction. Expansion is the bird stretching its wings. Constriction is the cage asking you to close the door again. Stay with it.
You're done when: one moment where you stayed as who you've become, instead of reaching for who you were.
Where are you still reverting to the version of yourself that existed before the healing, and what would happen if you went into that room as who you are now?
The bird knows how to sing.
The healing is already done.
Will you go into the world as who you've become?
"I'd done years of deep healing. I was genuinely different inside. But I kept walking into rooms as the old me. The moment I stopped reverting, the people who were meant to stay got closer. The ones who loved the old version fell away. Both were right."
— Teacher, finally spreading her wings
"The cage wasn't about my voice. It was about who I was willing to be in the world. When I finally showed up as who I'd actually become, everything realigned."
— Leader, 46
