What Is Reiki
A grounded introduction to Reiki, live attunement, and Reiki 1 certification — so you know exactly what you are stepping into.
Reiki is a hands-on energy healing practice.
The word Reiki comes from two Japanese words: Rei, meaning universal or spiritual wisdom, and Ki, meaning life force energy. Together they describe a practice that works with the body's own energy system to clear blocks, restore flow, and support healing on physical, emotional, and spiritual levels.
Reiki does not diagnose or treat illness. It works alongside any other care you are receiving by bringing the nervous system into a state of calm, reducing stress, and creating the conditions in which the body heals more effectively.
Reiki works with the principle that life force energy flows through all living things. When that flow is blocked or depleted, the body and mind feel it. When it is restored, the whole system responds.

What is a Reiki attunement?
An attunement is the process through which a Reiki Master opens and calibrates a student's energy channels to carry and transmit Reiki. It is what makes a Reiki certification real — without a live attunement from a qualified teacher, you have learned about Reiki but you have not been initiated into it.
This is the most important distinction when choosing a Reiki certification. Many online courses teach Reiki in a self-paced format. My approach is different: I believe attunement should be live, personal, and held in real time, so the initiation is received with presence, clarity, and support.
Preparation
You and Shanti connect live via video. She opens sacred space, centering the session in intention and presence before the attunement begins.
The attunement itself
Shanti transmits the Reiki lineage directly to you through a specific sequence of symbols and intentions. This opens your energy channels to carry and channel Reiki. Most people feel a shift during or immediately after.
Integration
A 21-day integration period follows every attunement. The energy continues to settle and deepen through your system. Your practice manual and daily guide support you through this period.
Certification
Upon completion of the attunement and training, you receive your Reiki 1 certification. You carry the lineage and can practice on yourself, family, friends, and clients.
A live attunement from a qualified teacher is not a formality. It is the practice. The difference between reading about Reiki and being attuned to it is the difference between reading about swimming and getting in the water.
Reiki was my first encounter with the reality of energy.
I came to Reiki at a turning point. I had spent years inside the music industry, and something in me kept pointing toward something I could not name yet. Reiki was where I began to name it — my first structured encounter with the reality that energy is real, that it can be felt and directed with intention, and that the body knows things the mind has not caught up to yet.
That recognition changed the direction of my work entirely. Twenty-five years later, Reiki is still the foundation I return to and the first thing I teach.
Reiki is where most people have their first real experience of subtle energy — not as a concept, but as something they can actually feel moving through their hands and body. That experience changes how you understand everything else.
The lineage goes back to Dr. Mikao Usui.
Reiki was rediscovered in the early 20th century by Dr. Mikao Usui, a Japanese Buddhist monk and teacher. After years of study and a period of fasting and meditation on Mount Kurama, he experienced a direct transmission of the healing frequencies that became Reiki. He spent the rest of his life training others and documenting the system.
Every legitimate Reiki attunement carries an unbroken lineage back through teachers to Usui himself. When Shanti attunes you, that lineage passes to you.
Reiki as the beginning of working with energy intentionally.
In my work, I teach that devotion is the living current through which all creation flows — an impersonal mechanism, like gravity, that moves toward whatever receives sustained attention and intention. Reiki is where most people begin to learn this in a practical way.
The attunement opens your energy channels. The practice teaches you to feel where energy is moving and where it is not. The intention directs it. This is not a metaphor — it is a skill that develops with practice, and it changes how you understand your own life and the lives of the people you work with.
